Miss Sylvia - Studio Owner

Miss Sylvia is extremely excited for this new opportunity in her life.

Sylvia’s love of dance began at the very young age of 3, at the University of Lethbridge, under Mary Falconer. She has pursued dance in several streams of dance including recreationally and competitively at couple of local dance studios; as well as being very involved in the Dance Program at her high school LCI.

After high school, she attended the University of Lethbridge pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Management, majoring in Human Resources and Labour Relations. Her interest in the business world stemmed at a young age, being the grand-daughter of an Entrepreneur; which lead her to pursue a degree in Management. Combined with her love of dance, she ultimately decided to open a dance studio in her hometown, Starbound Dance Center!

As a young dancer, Sylvia trained extensively in lyrical, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and ballet but has experience in many other disciples including acro, swing, modern, tap, and pointe. In addition to dancing at a studio, she has taken Dance 9, 15/25 and performed in numerous dance productions with Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, under the direction of Betty Poulsen and Alisha Hornberger. While at LCI she had roles in 4 different shows including the works of Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and performed alongside a live band, Jason & The Diatonics.

While in high school she was awarded two Fine Arts of Excellence Awards.

In 2017, just days after her 20th birthday, she decided to combine her education and love of dance to creative something new. Hence Starbound Dance Center was born!

After graduating, Miss Sylvia attended her first dance teaching expo in 2017 and since then has continued to educate herself in the immersive world of dance.

She has had the opportunity expand her knowledge of dance and attend many different workshops including Cirque De Soleil. She has learned under Tara Wilson, Michael Dameski, Alixa Sutton, Brian Foley, Berek Piquette, Haley Viloria, Jared Khalifa, Robyn Segal Shifren to name a few.

She has also taken online classes from Brian Friedman, Kathryn McCormick, tWitch, Teddy Florance, JBlaze, Jojo Diggs, Buddha Stretch and more.

She is so grateful to be able to learn from amazing choreographers and mentors from all over the world and had dedicated her life to continuing her dance education to the highest degree and ensuring her students receive the same.

Miss Sylvia teaches a diverse variety of styles with a passion for acro and lyrical and has been awarded for her efforts at competition.
Her very first year of teaching she won an Outstanding Choreography award at competition for her Junior swing-jazz routine "Jitterbug" at the age of 16.

She has also won several choreography awards for her lyrical routines, had dances place in the top 10, qualify for dance-offs, champions, and win top scores.

Apart from dance, Miss Sylvia has a passion for cooking all things delicious, traveling the world,  watching true-crime documentaries, going to the driving range to see how good her shot still is and doing pole fitness.

Miss Sylvia also played high-school and club volleyball, rugby, was on the track and field team (shotput, discus and javelin), and dabbled in a little basketball and raquet-sports.
