There is a one-time registration fee of $25 (plus tax), payable at the time of registration.
What methods of payments do you accept?
Payment options include cash, e-transfer, cheques, or online automatic monthly withdrawal (Visa, MasterCard, or Debit Visa/MasterCard) via parent portal.
What happens if my child no longer wants to participate in dance?
We understand that things happen, problems arise, and situations change all the time throughout the year. If, for any reason, you need to withdrawal during the year, Starbound Dance Center must receive a written or emailed notice about your withdrawal.
Do you offer shows/recitals/opportunities for my child to perform?
At Starbound we believe it is important for all of our dancers to have the opportunity to perform for their friends, families and loved ones. This is why we offer at least two shows/performances per year, one Winter Showcase and one Year End Showcase.
Recreational and competitive classes of all ages may be asked to perform throughout the year. We have been asked to perform at Senior Centres, schools, etc. and we love including our recreational students and giving them an extra chance to perform.
Do you have a waiting area for parents?
We do run a drop-off and pick-up system. Due to our large number of classes and dancers, our lobby is closed to parents. This helps with with transitions between classes as we run 3 studios/classes at a time with up to 40-60 dancers in the entire studio at any given time. During transitions this number will double as we have dancers arriving and it makes it easier for the dancers departing to find their belongings and exit. Parents are welcome to sit in the vehicles in the parking lot or go and grab a coffee and come back for pick up.
Parents are welcome to come into the studio to pick up their dancers. Older dancers parents may want to sit in their vehicle for pick-up if that is the case, we will walk them to their parent.
Can I stay to watch my child dance?
We are happy to have parents come into the studio and see their child off to their class however all of our classes, including the 2/3 year old classes are non-parented. This helps children adjust to independence and grow and learn as a dancer without the stress of parents viewing them. Some dancers may be shy at first and cannot get the full benefits of a dance class if there are several strangers watching. Parents in the room can be distracting to dancers (their own or others) and make other dancers feel uneasy.
We do offer a parent viewing week once dancers have had time to adjust and parents are welcome to come in and view during that time.
We also run two Showcases a year to see your child perform on stage!
What If my child has anxiety/seperation issues?
The It is perfectly normal for children to have anxiety and separation issues when they first begin. Our teachers are prepared to help your child adjust to this new dynamic of leaving a parent at the door. In the beginning we give your child approximately 30 minutes to ease into the class. Our teachers are well trained in comforting your child and easing them into class. If your child is still feeling upset or scared, our teachers will call you. Usually within 3-4 drop offs, your child will understand the routine and will be comfortable with attending class independently.
